Clinical Research Database
The Division of Breast Surgery at Nottingham City Hospital has been carrying out
research into breast cancer for over 14 years. Since the
data collected was not standardised, centralised and
documented the department was unable to maximise its
research output during this period.
Harlow Wood Consulting was commissioned to audit, document and
amalgamate the division's data. We provided a unique
system which uses configuration information to mould itself to each set
of data contained within its framework. The system contains
administrative functions allowing non-technical admin users to change
the underlying database design, document and control access to the data.
It also provides an export wizard allowing the data to be
exported into a statistical analysis package. The system currently
stores information on over 40,000 research cases and has enabled the
department to make some significant findings. "Harlow Wood Consulting have allowed us to retrieve, collate and analyse much more effectively
the
research data we have collected over years. This is
making research studies easier to carry out as we can
link biological samples, laboratory research results and
outcome data. This integrated database has facilitated additional research publications which would not have been possible with the previous data system" Prof John F R Robertson,
Head of Division, University of Nottingham
